Could Governor Brewer and President Obama Exchanged Words Increase Book Sales?

Is it possible that a highly publicized and temperamental meeting between President Barack Obama and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer could increase the sales of Brewer’s recently released (November 1, 2011) autobiography, “Scorpions for Breakfast”?

Brewer, a Republican, met Obama as he landed at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and the two appeared to have some cross words. Brewer later told reporters the exchange focused on her depiction of a 2010 meeting at the White House where Brewer defended the signing of Arizona's controversial law against illegal immigrants, which Obama has opposed. Brewer described the meeting as a lecture, while Obama felt it was far more cordial.

This exchange of words and the picture of the meeting, has now landed Brewer and her book on the “front page” of national and local media outlets – print, online and broadcast. Even on social media, the terms “Jan Brewer” and “book” have seen a 3,126 percent increase in discussion over the past 24 hours (according to internal research). “Jan Brewer” is also now one of the top trending terms on Twitter and discussion will most likely carry on for the next 24 hours.

The level of publicity for Brewer’s book has now skyrocketed, and it has me wondering if this was an incredibly successful PR stunt that has millions of Americans wondering what Brewer actually wrote. If it’s enough to get the President worked up, it might be enough to get people to buy Brewer’s book just to answer that question.
