Our Valentine's Day Stories

There are a number of different stories about the origin of Valentine's Day. According to one legend, a gentleman named Valentine sent the first "valentine" while in prison. He had fallen in love with a young girl, his jailor's daughter, who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed "From your Valentine."

Another legend has it that Valentine was a priest who lived in Rome under the rule of Emperor Claudius II. The Emperor decided single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, so he outlawed marriage. Valentine defied the emperor and continued performing marriages for young lovers in secret until he was caught and put to death.

While those stories don't exactly scream "love," times have changed.  And since love is in the air, we thought it would be fun to tell you what we love most about working in PR here at Xenophon.   Xenophon employees have different rhymes and reasons for being in PR, but one thing is certain--we all love our jobs. But the reasons we do are different for each and every one of us.

  • Blake Rhodes: "I love working in PR because it is one of the few jobs in the world where you get an instant and very public report card on how well you did your job.  And this may surprise my parents, because I always complained about doing word problems in school, but now, I enjoy helping our clients fix issues that they may be dealing with."
  • Jay Silverberg: "I love working at Xenophon because  the people here are personally and professionally as interesting as the issues our clients present to us, and push me to learn."
  • Jennifer June: "I love that I've never had the same day twice in eight years. I love the diversity of working at an agency and the variety of clients that come with that."
  • Josh Stewart: “I love PR and Xenophon specifically because in one day I can work on issues ranging from aviation to manufacturing, from trade policy to social media management.  The variety is unlike any other industry.”
  • Katie Arnold: "As one of Xenophon's newest employees, the thing I have loved the most has been its welcoming and relaxed environment."
  • Matt Meenan: "I love Xenophon's corporate culture which is, to my mind, both relaxed but also serious about getting work done and serving our clients."

That's really just the tip of the iceberg and one of the things we pride ourselves on most is that when people visit our offices and work with us, they never cease to notice how much each and every one of us loves our jobs. We can only hope everyone else in the world is as lucky.

We'd love to hear your thoughts...what do you love most about your job?
