This past Friday, October 21st, Xenophon staff participated in the fourth annual chili cook-off. The competition was fierce with ten chilis competing for the grand prize and bragging rights for an entire year.
The competition got off to a heated start around 2:00 PM on Friday. “Chili related” music provided the soundtrack to the tasting, including songs such as,“Hot, Hot, Hot,” “Ring of Fire,” and my personal favorite “Hot in Herre.” Fortunately, everyone stopped dancing long enough to taste the wide variety of chilis that competed.
All competitors really stepped it up this year, creating chilis with a variety of meats and spices. However, once the votes were tallied there was a clear winner of this year’s competition. Senior Associate Bob Brady’s chili won by a landslide, an unheard of 11 point win over the competition. When asked about his inspiration for this year’s winning recipe, Bob said, “I wanted to give it a good Midwestern feel; a rich, hearty chili that reminded people of their mom’s home cooking. To do that, I added a little bit of sweetness, that I will not reveal, but it obviously did its job.”
Bob’s secret recipe won him two tickets to see Cirque du Solei when they come to the Verizon Center next month. Second place went to Erica Lawton who won Wizards Tickets, followed by Jason Meath who won a $50 gift card for third place.
“Xenophon’s vital support allowed the Coast Guard to leverage an unprecedented level of cutting-edge social media venues and technology to reach the broadest audience possible.”
